On November 9, 2012 I attended a whisky tasting for Roger’s House and this is where I tried this whisky. Disclaimer: the way it was set up was you basically had one glass that you had to re-use, so I had to use the water I had and napkins to clean out and wipe my current glass for the next whisky. NOT the recommended method, so I can’t be sure if part of the tasting was compromised or not.
Unfortunately I don’t have many notes on this whisky as I had it in the middle of the event and didn’t have much due to the ABV % (I was worried!). But wow, this whisky was fantastic. It is 60% ABV and does not taste like it. I was expecting an alcohol burn like no other, but there was hardly any burn at all. I pretty much only got sherry notes but overall I was very impressed. So smooth and so little alcohol burn compared to other whiskies similar to this ABV. It was creamy and I really enjoyed it. Just seemed to be a fantastic bottling.
Interestingly enough, this was 60% ABV and the one that is sold at LCBO is 58.2%. Seems different editions/years have different ABVs so something to consider.
Tried dram on: November 9, 2012
WWC Recommendation: Highly recommended (at least at 60% ABV bottling. Need to try the 58.2%)
