Tried it at a local whisky pub at a friend’s bachelor party so did not get a complete tasting in. This was my first experience with Isle of Jura and it was quite interesting. This whisky is 45% ABV and made from a selection of aged Jura single malt whiskies (apparently aged 13 and 21 years). It was quite smooth and smoky, but the prevailing aroma that I (as well as everybody around me) took from it was meaty/gamey.
What I find perplexing is that I haven’t found any reviews of this whisky that mention a meaty aroma, yet everybody with me agreed. It was dominated by that aroma too, so I didn’t get much out of it in my limited tasting.
It was intriguing but not something I’d buy a bottle of. I would like to try it (as well as other Jura varieties) in the future.
Tried dram of on: July 2012
WWC Recommendation: Need to try again to see if meaty/gamey aromas were just present in that batch/bottle, but for now, avoid
