Tried it at a local whisky pub at a friend’s bachelor party so did not get a complete
tasting in. One of my first experiences with an independent bottler and I came away quite impressed. Had a very light amber color and a low ABV (likely low 40s). It was quite smooth, fruity and a bit spicy to start, with an explosion of banana later, while the empty glass had floral aromas and something I couldn’t put my finger on. My friend Cedric said prunes, but I couldn’t recall the aroma of prunes at the time 🙂 The main thing that impressed me about this whisky is how much it changed in a relatively short period of time. Compared to the Bowmore Black I had earlier in the evening which didn’t alter its personality as much, the Linkwood 11 had so many different personalities and characteristics to it that it urges you to come back for more (and often!).
That’s all I could get from my limited tasting but I thought it was a nice whisky and would be perfect as a light ‘refreshment’ after a dinner. Like a peatier whisky, I would need to be in the mood for it, but if I was in the mood for a fruitier whisky this would be on my list. Just hard to find more information on it or available Linkwood whiskies in general (in Ontario).
Tried dram on: July 2012
WWC Recommendation: Recommended!
